Engineering geodesy

Role of geodesy in civil engineering is enormously important. Projecting of objects requires accurate and updated geodetic bases and transfer of the project on the terrain requires firm points of known coordinates. During an object construction, geodesists observe and control construction and, upon the job completion, they photograph the situation. Some objects like bridges, dams, big chimneys etc. are observed by checking geodetic surveys while they are in exploitation.
Performing described job by means of precise instruments and competent personnel requires expertise and ingenuity.

In the area of engineering and applied geodesy, Institute for photogrammetry deals with:

  • projecting and geodetic micro-networks in engineering and industry,
  • staking out based on final projects,
  • observation of constructing objects of civil engineering, construction of buildings, bridges, tunnels, hydroconstruction, etc.
  • supervision and observation of progress in construction phases and exploitation,
  • precise geodetic surveys in industry.

Topographic plan in 1:1000 scale

For more detailed projecting in civil engineering, urban planning and hydrotechnics, Institute for photogrammetry produces detailed topographic plans of a large scale (1:1000 and larger) by digital photogrammetric restitution of aerial photographs or geodetic survey in the field.

Institute for photogrammetry conducts activities for projecting purposes such as:

  • production of topographic and ortophoto plans and maps for urban and hydrotechnic projecting for different areas in Croatia and abroad,
  • production of topographic plans, photographing profiles, staking out of the route, and doing parcelling out studies for projecting and constructing road routes across Croatia.
