Digital terrain model
Digital terrain model is a mathematical model of the earth's surface displayed in real spatially and altitudinally defined geometric entities and can, by use of appropriate hardware and software, be used for various purposes that require the interpretation of shape of the earth's surface.
Digital terrain models can be used for several purposes:
- projecting objects and roads,
- determining disturbance, i.e. scope of optical visibility and radio waves,
- hydrotechnic projecting,
- producing maps and creating various altitudinal and perspective views,
- producing digital ortophoto.
Institute for photogrammetry is equipped and has a team for collecting altitudinal data by photogrammetric restitution, terrestrial survey or from the existing sources, as well as for calculation and processing of digital terrain models and making adequate cartographic displays.
In the area of digital terrain models, Institute for photogrammetry does the following:
- collects data for creating digital relief models manually and automatically,
- reviews, analyses and controls the quality of collected data,
- makes calculations and all types of displays of digital relief models.
